In the process of buying a car for Worthington Ford in Long Beach.
Feb. 2011
Here is what has occurred that appears to be sketchy.
Finance Manager told us that we had to purchase the "Power Plug" anti-theft device because it was already installed. But when we came out, the sales person was surprised, asking "Oh, You guys decided to get the power plug?" as if it had been a choice. (This was listed as an optional item on the contract.)
GAP insurance. The finance manager said he would take the price of the GAP insurance off the final price of the car. I signed the acceptance form for the GAP, but when we finally got to the contract, the price of the GAP, $695, was not removed from the final price of the vehicle as promised. Completely my fault for not checking every line.)
Received a call the next day from the finance manager. GREAT NEWS! He found a better interest rate for me. 3% lower than my original interest rate. (But only if I purchase the extended warranty.) I would need to come down and sign new loan documents which would lower my interest rate by 3%, but raise my payment by $10 a month.
I called the dealership and asked to speak with Nick Worthington. The receptionist stonewalled me, and then hung up on me. When I called back, she took my info and said he would call back. She never apologized for hanging up on me.
At this point, I've taken my lumps, and learned a valuable lesson. And it cost me $1,400(plus interest). If Nick Worthington reads this; I'd like you to give me the new loan at the lower interest rate and not force me to purchase the extended warranty. If you want a customer for life; Take off the power plug and GAP charges and give me the lower loan rate. Just sell me the car I wanted.
I will happily edit this review if/when the dealership responds.
