EVERYONE STAY AWAY!! I had an experience with them about a year ago. I gave them a $14K account. To make a long story short, my calls and messages went unanswered for weeks. The secretary would always tell me that the person I was trying to reach (Vern Long, or Jessica ?) was in a meeting or even one time told me they were gone for the day (early afternoon ET). After about 2 months of their non-responsiveness I finally wrote them a cease and desist letter (via cert. mail). I carbon copied every email address I could find on their website. A few days later, I got a call from Mr. Long saying they would close the account. I hired a local attorney who wrote some letters and got me a 70% settlement and my customer is 2 payments from paying that in full.
I always had a feeling they were scam artists, but I wasn't 100% sure until the other day I tried getting on their website and it was down. I did some Google searching and found all these other reviews here and that confirmed it. I was lucky that I didnt lose any money and they never collected from my customer. I hope these reviews will help save someone else from these people.
UPDATE 12/3/09: Got another cold call from a collection agency. The lady said the company specializes in our type of business. First thing I did was ask where the company was located... she said Florida. RED FLAG! Company name Brooks, Newman & Stone. Not sure if they are related to these people, but it's odd they were in FL same as BK&W. I would suggest that if you need any collection services to stick with a local company. Stay away from collection people who make cold calls to your business!
UPDATE 02/25/10: Just got another call, from another so-called collection agency. The woman on the other end named "Jessica" sounded an awful lot like the Jessica I spoke with at Baker Kline & Wade (raspy voice). Although, I can't recall the company name I did ask if they were associated with BKW. She said "no", but same name as Jessica from BKW, same "we specialize business like yours", and same cold call. Forget it.
